CCEA A LEVEL MOVING IMAGE ARTS
If you enjoy watching films, being creative or developing your technical and analytical skills then you should consider Moving Image Arts. The two year course will teach you some of the main developments in cinema history, film language and all the skills you need to plan and produce your own short film.
CCEA are the only examination board to offer this innovative subject which allows students to develop a range a skills including:
technical and expressive competence making films
critical understanding of film language, narrative and audience
developing the ability to manage resources, people and equipment
developing team-work, creativity and problem-solving skills
using their initiative and evaluating their effectiveness.
Unit AS 1: Realist and Formalist Techniques and the Classical Holywood Style: Foundation Portfolio
Students produce:
a statement of intention
pre-production materials
pne 3-4 minute narrative film sequence or 1.5 - 2 minute animation sequence based on provided stimuli; and
an evaluation
Teachers mark the coursework and CCEA moderate the results
Weighting: 60% of AS, 24% of A Level
Unit A" 2: Critical Response
Students take a 1 hour 30 minute online examination with questions on clips from set study areas
Section A - Alfred Hitchcock and the Classical Holywood Style
Section B - Formation: Early European Cinema and American Expressionism
CCEA set the examination and mark it
Weighting: 40% of AS, 16% of A Level
Unit A2 1: Creative Production and Research: Advanced Portfolio
Students produce:
an illustrated essay
pre-production materials
one 4-7 minute long narrative film or 2-3.5 minute long animation; and
an evaluation
Teachers mark the coursework and CCEA moderate the results
Weighting: 36% of A Level
Unit A2: Advanced Critical Response
Students take a 2 hour 15 minute online examination with questions based on clips from set study areas and an unseen script
Section A - Realism: Narrative and Visual Style
Section B - Creative Exercise
Section C - Comparative Analysis
CCEA set the examination and mark it
Weighting: 24% of A Level
